July 03 - Maastricht
July 03 - Maastricht
We had no plans today so went for a wander around town before having a walk along the city walls and then a stroll along the surrounding river.
On our wanders though we did find ourselves in a 13th century Dominican church, since deconsecrated, however now it’s a bookstore. Still with the beautiful vaulted ceilings, it’s interesting to see what you can do with an unused church building without destroying its original architecture. What a great idea and transformation of a lovely building.
The walk along the river this afternoon was beautiful, nice and peaceful and with some lovely views of the city walls.
The old town here in Maastricht can get get quite busy, mainly with shoppers, as there are quite a lot of upmarket clothes shops around the place. However, there’s not a lot of must-do activities here, or must-see architecture come to that, but it’s one of those lovely cities that if living in Europe you would make a point of coming here for a long weekend (there’s enough restaurants and bars to keep you ‘fed and watered’ for months!).
